Utility company provisions
State and federal laws require utility companies to provide adequate service to our customers. To meet this obligation, we must ensure that our lines are adequately maintained and free of obstructions. During routine inspections, we sometimes find tree branches, limbs or other vegetation growing into our distribution lines. Such situations may cause interruptions in our service. In some cases, pruning the troublesome branches, limbs or other vegetation is enough to correct the situation.
Public rights-of-way
Our distribution lines and poles are often located within a public right-of-way, such as along a alley, road or highway. If a tree located on a property along such public right-of-way grows into our lines, we are permitted to prune or remove the tree causing the obstruction.
Authority may be granted to our company to trim by municipal franchise agreements. Below are some additional rules and standards that apply:
- Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR), Chapter 860, Division 028 (including 860-028-0110)
- OAR Chapter 860, Division 024 (including 860-024-0010)
- The National Electrical Safety Code (including Rule 218)
