The following are the various IP address configurations with which EONI Internet service can be provided. IPv4 is the default IP address type, IPv4 is the most common and most well supported IP address type in the configurations listed below. IPv6 is also available and may require more advanced configuration to support. Please review all of the configurations and then contact us with any questions you have.
- Configuration A: PPPoE, single /32, dynamic, public globally routable IP address (IPv6 is also available)
- Most commonly used for most all customers for both home and business
- Public IP address subject to change when customer router connects to EONI Internet
- Customer router Internet/WAN interface is configured:
- PPPoE (point to point protocol over Ethernet)
- dynamic IP address
- PPPoE automatically provides all details to make the Internet connection work. No IP address, default gateway, subnet mask or DNS is required to be set manually.
- No additional cost. Included standard with all EONI Internet services.
- Configuration B: PPPoE, single /32 static, public, globally routable IP address
- Same as configuration A except EONI assigns an static IP address
- Public IP address does not change when customer router connect to EONI Internet
- Customer equipment works best if PPPoE configuration remains as dynamic as EONI will consistently provide the same IP address
- EONI will assign the static IP address and communicate the static IP address to the customer
- Additional cost $15 setup, $7.50 monthly
- Configuration C: DHCP, single /32 dynamic, public, globally routable IP address
- Most commonly used on EONI Baicells LTE wireless equipment
- Public IP address does change when customer router connects to EONI Internet
- No additional cost. Included standard with EONI Baicells LTE wireless Internet services. Not available as a replacement for PPPoE.
- Configuration D: DHCP, single /32 static, public, globally routable IP address
- Most commonly used on EONI Baicells LTE wireless equipment
- Public IP address does not change when customer router connects to EONI Internet
- EONI will assign the static IP address and communicate the static IP address to the customer
- Additional cost $15 setup, $7.50 monthly
- Not available as a replacement for PPPoE.
- Configuration E: static, public, globally routable IP address
- Most commonly used on special business customer configurations
- Public IP address does not change when customer router connects to EONI Internet
- EONI will assign the static IP address and communicate the static IP address to the customer
- Additional cost $75 setup, $15 monthly for block of 5 customer usable IP addresses. Larger IP address blocks may be available at additional monthly cost.
- Available as a replacement for PPPoE.
- Customer responsibilities:
- records on each of the IP addresses and what customer premise equipment is assigned to each IP address
- manually configures each of their devices to use the correct static IP address information
- This configuration is useful if customer wants to provide, install and maintain an Ethernet switch to split EONI service to be used by more than one customer router. Some business customers need to separate their point of sale (POS), business system, VPN, customer/guest WiFi, camera and other systems to use separate routers. Such configuration requires the customer to have knowledge of IP networking or employ a professional to setup and maintain such a configuration.
